Viking News first to investigate the National STEM Scholarship Scam

On March 28, the Viking News, Westchester Community College's Newsletter, became the first college publication to investigate the scam uncovered by the book, “The STEM Student Survival Guide.”  Reacting to a press release by author Leon Roomberg, reporter Jenna Colon learned how colleges are engaging what Roomberg describes as an unethical combination of “bad faith” scholarships, incompetent instruction, and student abuse. 

While other publications have since followed up Roomberg’s initial press release and initiated their own investigations and interviews, Colon and the Viking News deserve credit for being the first to act on this unfolding story.
